The Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box is designed similar to your average Rubbermaid storage bin. The top snaps on and off. The overall dimensions of this litter box are 20”L x 15”W x 15”H with a 9” opening in the top. The lid is designed to act as a litter mat to collect litter when your cat exits the box. Clevercat sells liners for this litter box that cost approximately $1 each. The litter box can be used with or without these liners.
Cat-Friendliness
Top-entry litter boxes like the Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box are great for keeping litter inside, but they also make it more difficult for your cat to gain access. If you have an elderly or disabled cat, this type of litter box may not be the best choice. As far as the size goes, the Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box is one of the largest of this design. The 9” opening at the top should be sufficient for even large cats. The Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box provides excellent privacy, but not very much ventilation.
Owner-Friendliness
The litter mat lid is a great feature for trapping litter. Top-entry litter boxes are already great for reducing litter scatter, but this added feature goes an extra step. The simple design makes this litter box blend in with any other storage container you might have in your house. It doesn’t immediately jump out as a litter box.
The Clevercat litter pan liners are not very durable and could end up making cleaning even more of a nuisance when they tear. A lot of owners say this litter box is just as easy to clean without the liners.
The biggest downside to this litter box involves having to remove the top lid every time you need to clean the litter box. Granted, the lid snaps off easily, but it is still an extra step. And if you’re not careful, you could end up making a big mess trying to get the litter from the lid back into the box.
The Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box is great at keeping dogs out and providing cats with plenty of privacy. The enclosed design also minimizes odors.

We do not recommend the Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box for elderly cats, obese cats, or cats that have difficulty jumping. The top-entry design of this litter box would likely prove to be a problem for these cats.
