Introducing Cats

After celebrating a full year of living together the realization that we still had a divided house began to sink in. We decided it was time to start pushing our cats out of their comfort zones.

Progress has been less apparent these past two months. We still have the cat gate up and we still don’t think it’d be safe to take it down. But we’ve been making some changes in our routines that we hope will pay off in the long run.

Another month has come and gone and we’ve made some progress, but not nearly as much as we’d hoped. To recap, it has been 2 months since our first face-to-face meeting with our Cat Behaviorist and nearly 8 months since we began the painful process of introducing our cats.

It’s been about a month since our first visit with our Cat Behaviorist. Our primary assignment was to construct a “Great Wall” in the middle of our home to separate our cats. The hope is that eventually they all just get used to seeing each other and the drive to fight just goes away.

After months of dealing with severe inter-cat aggression, we finally decided to get professional help from a Cat Behaviorist. The day had finally come for our face-to-face meeting and were excited and anxious because we didn’t know what to expect.

Introducing Cats was not going according to plan. After months of work our cats still hated each other and couldn’t be left alone in the same room without someone getting hurt. We decided to seek professional help from a Cat Behaviorist.

It has been 5 months since the big move and we are still not able to have our cats in the same room without all hell breaking loose. Introducing cats has not been going well and we are running out of options and things to try.

The biggest hurdle to moving in with my boyfriend involves introducing my 4-year-old Savannahs, Arya and Django, to my boyfriend’s 4-year-old rescue kitty, Puddles. We have a lot riding on the successful comingling of these 3 cats. Here’s our story.
